Lateral/Horizontal Load Test
Lateral/Horizontal load testing can be used to evaluate pile’s capacity in horizontal direction. The test procedure is standardized as per IS: 2911-(Part-4)-2018. The test may be carried out by introducing a hydraulic jack between test pile and adjacent support. The support can be taken from excavated soil or mass concrete. A steel plate shall be placed in front of support as shown in the photo below. Typical photos showing lateral load testing in progress is shown below.
